Perks of Each
An underground pool is chosen by many who consider the landscape of their yard. Underground pools, while more expensive, are much more elegant. But depending on the amount of money you can spend, you may need to install one that is above ground.
An underground pool also takes more time to maintain and you will likely opt to add a deck to the peripheral. Some people take factors like this into consideration and opt for an above-ground pool to get a feel for what owning a pool is like. However, if you are fairly confident that an underground pool suits you best, then testing with an above-ground pool will make pool ownership pricier in the long run, plus you have to content with the obligation of disposing of the above-ground pool.
Yard Space
Yard space is an important factor to consider when deciding whether to install an underground pool or opt for its counterpart. Many people who have space for an above-ground pool don’t have the yard size for an underground variety because they usually require a deck. Home value can actually decrease at a house with an underground swimming pool if there isn’t enough space for other backyard items such as a patio and a garden.
Cleaning
Owning an underground pool also requires more cleaning and cleaning equipment than its above-ground counterpart. You will need to either learn how to clean your pool, which involves skimming, vacuuming and balancing chemicals in the water, for example, or you could hire a pool person to complete the tasks for you. If you don’t like the work involved, an above-ground pool can be taken apart and removed from your yard.
Bills to Consider
You might want to consider the amount of money you need to spend on water bills. However, you don’t need to refill the underground pool once you fill it up at the beginning of swimming season. There are, though, occasions when you will need to replace the water, if there is too much of a particular chemical in the water, or if an animal has died in the pool, for example. Also, if you live in cooler climates and plan on heating your pool, there will be costs for that.
Other Considerations
Above-ground pools require you to have a flat surface on which to install, while underground pools require digging equipment that can make the surface flat. Underground pools also call for a fense to block out any unsuspecting visitors from falling in, whether it’s animals or children.
You may not be allowed, depending on your city’s building code, to instal an above-ground or underground pool. It’s always important to check to make sure you are allowed. Also, home owner insurance policies may increase if you have a pool in your yard.
While pools have huge perks, such as the ability to cool off and entertain company, an unmaintained pool can look ghastly in your yard. Make sure you are committed to your pool before deciding to make a purchase.
